Towards Just Care

Towards Just Care is a SSHRC-funded community-engaged research project focused on finding socially justice alternatives to residential long-term care. The project is led by Mary Jean Hande at Trent University and Megan Linton with the Disability Justice Network of Ontario. We are supported by researchers and staff in Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia, and guided by an Advisory Council representing immigrant care workers and low-income older and disabled people accessing ongoing care supports. Our primary focus is mapping the current home-based medical care and support services available in Ontario and analyze these systems from the perspective of disability and migrant justice. Check out our new toolkit “Just Care Dreams.”
The second phase of the project launched in May! When TJC and DJNO received a Partnership Development Grants for Towards Just Care: Building and Mobilizing a Grassroots Coalition for Just Home Care - $199,606

Stay tuned for more projects outcomes, opportunities to engage, and more care dreams.

Mapping
One of my areas of focus through this project has been mapping corporate home care.

We created a power map, using the tools by the fine folks over at Lil Sis. You can check out that map below, and in the attached toolkit.
